Position Summary & Responsibilities

The Pharmacy Technician will support the pharmacy unit in the dispensing of prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Key duties include:

  • Interpreting prescriptions and ensuring correct dosage and labeling

  • Dispensing medications accurately and counseling patients on usage

  • Managing stock, including receiving deliveries, storing medicines appropriately, and tracking inventory levels

  • Preparing medication for use, including mixing, measuring, and packaging when necessary

  • Maintaining accurate patient records and updating pharmacy documentation systems

  • Upholding pharmacy safety protocols, including infection prevention and storage regulations

  • Supporting the pharmacist in daily operations and customer service duties

Qualifications & Requirements

Candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Diploma in Pharmacy Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution

  • Valid registration and license from the Uganda Allied Health Professionals’ Council

  • At least 1 year experience working in a pharmacy or clinical dispensing environment

  • Excellent understanding of drug names, dosage forms, and storage requirements

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Good numeracy, attention to detail, and ethical conduct in handling medications

Reporting & Work Conditions

  • Reports to the Chief Pharmacist or Pharmacy Manager

  • Full-time position based in Kampala, serving both walk-in and referred patients

  • Typical work hours follow standard healthcare schedules; weekend shifts may be required occasionally

  • Must adhere strictly to national pharmaceutical regulations and facility-specific guidelines
